My Dream Job: Owning a Bookstore Full of Chaos and Magic
If you’ve spent any time on My Chaotic Ramblings, you already know I’m obsessed with books. I read them, review them, promote them, and occasionally cry over them at 2 a.m. But if I could wave a magic wand and create my dream job? I’d own a bookstore. Not just any bookstore, a cozy, chaotic haven where stories come alive and readers feel seen.
📚 Why a Bookstore?
Books have always been my escape, my therapy, and my inspiration. They’ve helped me through motherhood, marriage, college, and every twist life throws my way. I’ve raised three amazing kids (all adults now), been married for 13 years, and recently returned to college at age 42. Through it all, books have been my constant.
Owning a bookstore would be the ultimate way to share that love. I imagine shelves overflowing with fantasy romance, fairy tale retellings, and character-driven sagas. There’d be a section for indie authors, a corner for planner lovers, and maybe even a “Melissa’s Chaos Picks” table featuring emotionally wrecking reads and morally gray heroes.
🛋️ The Vibe
Think mismatched chairs, warm lighting, and handwritten recommendation cards. A little messy, a little magical, just like me. I’d host book clubs, author signings, and themed nights (Enemies-to-Lovers Bingo, anyone?). There’d be a coffee bar with punny drink names and a wall where readers could leave notes about the books that changed them.
And yes, there’d be planner workshops and maybe even a TikTok nook where I could film chaotic bookish content for @chaoticpsyche2016.
💬 More Than a Business
This wouldn’t just be a store, it’d be a community. A place where readers of all ages could find comfort, connection, and maybe a little chaos. I’d use everything I’ve learned, from blogging at My Chaotic Ramblings to studying business, to make it thrive.
Because at the end of the day, my dream job isn’t just about selling books. It’s about creating a space where stories matter, people matter, and everyone feels welcome.
Would you visit my bookstore? What section would you head to first? Let’s dream together. And who knows, maybe one day, this chaotic rambling will turn into a grand opening post.
