Wedding Day |
How does one adjust to having her best friend go from being right next door to all the way across town? I'm uprooting not only me but the kids too. We don't know anyone in the new neighborhood, and the new house is so far from all of their friends. I am just glad that they can at least finish out the school year in their school, and I will do everything I can to keep them in the district they are in now.
As I said, I am excited about the move, and I know that even though we don't know anyone, we will find friends for me and the kids; but I can't help but wonder how long my adjustment period will be. I've become so used to my mom being right down the parking lot, how am I supposed to deal with her being so far away? How do I adjust to not having my support system within arms reach? Yes, I'm freaking out, I've spent most of the day in tears, worrying about every little thing; I just pray that I am strong enough to get through this without too much stress.
Monday is looming, and I know that I can't stop time and keep everything just as it is, no matter how much I want to. Almost everything but the TVs, beds and a few dishes are already packed and at the new house, do you think it's too late to back out and ask for a do-over?
The New House |
Oh Melissa! What a big step for your family! I will certainly be in prayer for you. We've been in our home for over 8 years and we may be moving to the next county this year. I'm as nervous as you are! Both of my children have grown up in this home and my mom is only 10 mins away. Obviously the next county will put us farther away from her. Keep us updated on how things are going in your new home and just remember that kids are resiliant. They will adjust! (Maybe even faster than you do!)
ReplyDeleteA big move, how exciting! I completely understand wanting a "do-over" and waiting things to stay the way they are, though. We've lived in our apartment for 3+ years, it's the only home my 2 year old has ever known. Each dent and scratch in the walls tells a story, and when we gear up to move this year I know I'll be dreading it also. But it will be for the best, will give your family room to grow, and give them a place to call their own. Stay strong and remember: There are many many more memories to be made in your new, beautiful home. :)
ReplyDeleteI have moved 16 times in the last 10 years. It is always a hassle but it can be exciting too. I wish you the best of luck in your new home.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you from experience it gets better. When we first moved to our home now from an apartment that my son spent the first 5 years of his life in, he was so mad and upset and for the first few months would tell me he wanted to go back, and missed his old bedroom, even down to missing the window in the living room lol, it would break my heart. But now, he loves where we are and wouldn't trade it for the world.
ReplyDeleteoh and one bonus that helped us was that since we now owned our home, they were able to finally get a puppy! Which we got 2 months after we were moved in an settled. :) hint hint... lol
