My Journey Part 6... One Month In

This post is brought to you by our sponsor, "Always Eat After 7 PM". The opinions expressed below are my own.

You can read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3Part 4 and Part 5 to catch up. Or if you are just looking for my diet posts part 3, part 4 and part 5 are the ones you want.

Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion is now available to purchase.

Learn more about the book and how to purchase here.

I have now been on this diet/program for a month. I've lost a total of 25 lbs, 3 pants sizes and have so much more energy than I did 4 weeks ago. (results may vary)I love being able to get up in the morning and not still be tired. The kids and i are doing so many more activities around the yard, getting ready to plant a garden and honestly, I wouldn't have been able to do any of that if it wasn't for this book and diet. I still have 3 1/2 weeks before I see my doctor, but I know he will be happy with the progress I have made so far. I just can't wait to see what all my levels are!

“Going without breakfast is part of intermittent fasting (IF), also called time-restricted feeding (TRF). IF is a pattern of food consumption that cycles between fasting and eating in specific time periods. There are various ways to do it; one of the most common is the 16/8 protocol, which involves 16 hours of fasting—typically done overnight—with an 8-hour window in which to eat each day.”

I have really benefited from IF, I couldn't do the whole 16 hours when I first started out, but 4 weeks in and I am killing it! It has been so easy to transition to drinking one of the 3- Minute Fat-Burning Morning Ritual Drinks. I do switch it up with the drinks every few days, just so that I don't get bored with one. And the meal plans and food lists have made shopping so much easier.  I pretty much use a rotating monthly menu based on the previous meal plans. It makes planning out my meals so much easier, and my kids love most of them; so i'm not making 3 or 4 different meals each night.

The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good

Right now I am in the Main Phase and I will be until I reach my goal, but the book covers the Lifestyle Phase and also includes meal plans for it. So I know that this will be an easy diet for me to keep up. I am so thrilled with my progress and i can't wait to update you all after my appointment in July!

My Journey part 5.. Update

This post is brought to you by our sponsor, "Always Eat After 7 PM". The opinions expressed below are my own.

You can read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 to catch up. Or if you are just looking for my diet posts part 3 and part 4 are the ones you want.

Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion is now available to purchase.

Here we are on Week 3 of my new diet. I have had tons more energy, and gotten so much done around the house. I finally quieted that little "must eat breakfast" voice in my head and have only broken the fast 1 time ( but it was an approved smoothie).

I honestly feel so much better! I love the ease of using the meal plans provided in the book, and I only make a few substitutions due to not eating pork and red meat. Everything has been so easy to find and preparation is extremely easy. The included food lists are great since I have to find substitutions for my preferences.

“Avoiding carbohydrates and restricting calories later in the day can have an adverse effect on your thyroid hormones, which play a major role in metabolism. When the thyroid fails to secrete enough of the hormones that control metabolism, this can trigger symptoms like fatigue, depression, weight gain, thinning hair, and dry skin.”

As I have progressed through the book and the diet I have noticed that I am not as tired throughout the day and my skin isn't as dry as it used to be.

Joel Marion’s Always Eat After 7PM program makes dieting easy and eliminates 90% of reasons for resistance.

The kids and my family have noticed how much happier and healthier I look and act since starting this program. I honestly never thought I would find something to work for me. As it stands as of today, I have lost a total of 15 pounds! (results may vary). I have an appointment with my cardiologist in July, hopefully I will be able to come off some of my meds!

My Journey part 4... My Why

This post is brought to you by our sponsor, "Always Eat After 7 PM". The opinions expressed below are my own.

You can read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 to catch up. Or if you are just looking for my diet posts part 3 is the one you want.

I've been working my way through Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.

As I stated in part 3, I have tried many different diets since 2017, not only do I want to loose weight, I also need to keep my cholesterol and blood pressure within normal levels. Now, I am currently taking meds that keep those two stable, but I would love to get off some of my medications, I currently take 7 in the morning and 3 at night. So with this diet I hope to be able to achieve those three goals. And I know once I loose weight and get my cholesterol and blood pressure under control I will have lots more energy to run around with my teens. So that's my WHY.

Bestselling author, Joel Marion, is a fitness expert and nutritionist debunking the myths underlying traditional dieting and offers a simple, highly effective weight loss program.

You’re a six-time best selling author, what is different about this book compared to your others?

Although many of the concepts are similar, the biggest difference is that you don't have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. You don't have to deal with the burden of eating every few hours. And you don't have to skip the carbs at dinnertime or avoid eating before bed.

How difficult is the Always Eat After 7 PM plan to follow?
It's not. And that's exactly why I wrote the book. While any diet is never truly easy, it can be more enjoyable and much easier to adhere to when you understand how Always Eat After 7pm works because it caters to our bodies natural instincts.

Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion is now available to purchase.

“When either incoming energy or body fat stores start to decline (as is often the case on low-carb or low-calorie fat loss diets), a series of reactions is set off in the body. As your leptin levels decline, you’ll experience a downward spiral of negative side effects”

I have tried both of these types of diets and I can tell you that what Joel says is true. I've gotten light-headed, nausea, and even passed out once. It isn't fun.

The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.

I am currently right in the middle of the Acceleration Phase, and while it is a little hard to keep myself from eating breakfast, I'm doing it, and I'm currently down 6 pounds!(results may vary)

My journey Part 3.. My new diet...

This post is brought to you by our sponsor, "Always Eat After 7 PM". The opinions expressed below are my own.

If you have been with me for awhile, you know about my heart attack back in 2017. If not you can catch up HERE and HERE

Since September 2019 I have been trying a few different diets, but I haven't been able to find one that really works for me in all aspects. Some call for special food, some are just too expensive to maintain and some involve a ton of calculations. I was not loosing any weight with most of them, especially since I always had to cook separate meals for the kids.

I ended up gaining 3 more pounds over the course of 5 months, so I was maintaining my weight but I needed to loose, and I always felt like I was starving! So I jumped at the chance to receive and advanced copy of  Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.  Over the next month, I will be sharing my experiences with the book and the diet.

Learn more about the book and how to purchase here.

We’ve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal

I've been actively trying to loose 80 pounds, so far I've been maintaining the weight; no loss. I can't keep doing the things that I am doing and not loosing the weight. So I sat down to read the book. Right off the bat Joel begins addressing all my concerns. I have always been told, even at a young age, to never eat after 6-7 pm, always leave lots of time between your last meal and bedtime so that the food doesn't just turn into fat overnight. Joel includes studies and research, so you know that it's not all made up! This really got me hooked:

A research paper published in Sports Medicine in 2014 showed that people who eat the majority of their carbs at dinner actually sleep better. Carb-induced, quality sleep decreases cortisol (a fat-storing hormone) and ramps up the production of your sleep hormones, serotonin and melatonin. Restorative sleep increases fat-burning hormones—the main one being growth hormone—overnight.

As a mother to teens, I am normally on the go most of the day; so I can't really eat big meals in the hours that are advised. So being able to eat the majority of my carbs at night is perfect for me! I'm extremely excited to dive in and I'll post an update in about a week, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, check out this video on the science behind the diet.

So head over and check out the book, and maybe join me on my journey!

Practicing self-care in uncertain times

Practicing self-care in uncertain times

In times of uncertainty, the feeling of overwhelm can be caused by too many competing sources of information. Many people get their information from more than one place, creating a constant flow of material to have to sort through and process.
Many people want to stay informed so they can make the best decisions for themselves and their loved ones. However, spending too much time glued to news and media can negatively affect mental health. Have you found yourself feeling panicked, anxious or impatient because you are feeling overwhelmed? Here are a few tips for practicing self-care in uncertain times:
— Limit the ways you receive news or information. Choose one or two trusted sources of information, and un-follow the rest. Turn off unnecessary phone notifications. Do not keep the news on your television constantly. Pick one or two times a day to watch, and otherwise turn it off.

— Plan times to check social media. Do not let yourself scroll continuously.
— Move your body. Go for a walk, find a free online workout program, do stretches in your home, etc.

— Begin your day with positivity. Write down something you are grateful for and a way you can help someone else today.
— Share something to which you are looking forward. This is a great way friends and family members can stay encouraged and hopeful each day.
— Stay connected to people who matter to you. If in-person visits are discouraged, use video calling, text messaging, phone calls, letters, or postcards to stay in touch with friends or family members.

— Go outside. Sunlight and fresh air help improve mood.
— Keep a regular schedule. Beginning and ending each day with a routine helps your body deal with situations that may be different or challenging.
— Learn a new skill. If you find yourself with extra time, make a plan to learn a new skill. You can learn many skills and hobbies by using videos on the internet or books from the library.

Cardio or Weights? Which one is the right fit for you?

Cardio or Weights? Which one is the right fit for you?

This is one frequently asked question because people want to see results in the gym as quickly as possible but are unsure if cardio or weight lifting is more beneficial. No one wants to spend hours in the gym without seeing progress towards their goals. Save yourself some time and keep these few tips in mind.
Photo by Gene Jeter on Unsplash

First, identify your main goal. It would be hard to decide which exercise is right for you if you do not have a goal in mind. Single out your main priority and work for it. Someone that wants to lose excess weight will have a different exercise routine than someone that wants to build lean muscle.

Next, understand the difference. Knowing the benefits of cardio and weight lifting will help guide you in choosing the best exercise in order to reach your goals. Cardio is great to burn calories, improve endurance, reduce risks of diseases, such as diabetes, and help with overall weight loss. Weight lifting also has helpful benefits, such as increase strength, tone muscles, increase bone density and increase your metabolism helping you burn more calories throughout the day.
Photo by Chase Kinney on Unsplash

Also, consider your fitness level. The great thing about exercise is that we are all different and start at our own pace. If you are someone new to working out or just getting back into a fitness routine, starting with cardio would be best. Walking on a treadmill, riding a bike, or hopping on an elliptical will warm your muscles up and get your body use to moving again. If you are more advanced in your fitness journey and are looking to increase intensity to burn fat and get tone, add in weight lifting two or three days a week. Remember, it is important to give your body rest days when lifting weights. Evaluate how you feel and challenge yourself when you are ready.

You can also try both cardio and weights. Mix it up by adding cardio and weight lifting to your routine. There are a variety of ways to do this, which can help keep you from getting bored. One option would be to alternate days of cardio and weight lifting.
Photo by Sven Mieke on Unsplash

For example, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday perform weighted exercises, and the days in between perform cardio workouts. Another option would be to work out three days a week adding in a short cardio session after weighted exercises. This routine could be planned such as, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday perform weighted exercises and finish with ten to fifteen minutes of cardio on a treadmill or elliptical. These routines allow you to get the benefits of cardio and weights in a timely manner.

Don’t forget to be happy. No one said working out has to be dreaded or miserable. Doing a workout you enjoy will keep you consistent and consistency leads to positive results. Listen to your body and see what works for you. If running is too hard on your joints, try a bike instead. If you dread lifting weights, then try body weight exercises like push-ups and squats. You can always modify any routine until you find the one that works for you and your fitness level.
Photo by Arek Adeoye on Unsplash

Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Like I mentioned before, everyone starts at their own fitness level. Whether you are just starting out, or more advanced, you can always ask for ways to improve your workout routine. Find a gym that provides fitness training, or a friend that is educated to help you. Personal trainers are a great source to use for help. They love what they do and are educated to help you succeed.

Cardio and weighted exercises are both beneficial for weight loss. Depending on your fitness level and what you enjoy, determines which routine will guide you on your fitness journey. Just keep moving and stay motivated. You got this!
